Boat Builder – Beautiful hull and water-repellent deck
Challenge:
A leading boat builder, known for its high-quality and elegant designs, was faced with recurring complaints from customers. These included rapid corrosion of metal parts, such as fittings and screws, and discoloration of wooden deck parts, which affected the aesthetics and functionality of the boats.
The root of the problem lay in the challenging environments in which the boats were used. Salt water and constant exposure to intense UV radiation led to accelerated wear of both metal and wooden components. The constant impact of these elements made the materials more fragile, resulting in:
Damage to metal parts:Corrosion not only caused an aesthetic problem, but also functional problems such as reduced strength and durability.
Discoloration and degradation of wood:The wood lost its original color and became more porous, making it more susceptible to moisture absorption and mold growth.
Higher maintenance frequency:Customers had to invest more often in cleaning and repair work, which was time-consuming and costly.
These issues not only affect customer satisfaction, but also the boat builder's reputation, as customers expect their investment in a premium boat to result in a product that would withstand the elements and provide years of trouble-free service.
The boat builder realized that traditional protection methods, such as varnish and oil, were insufficient to withstand the demanding conditions of salt water and heavy use. The company faced a pressing challenge: how can we better protect our boats from the elements while reducing maintenance costs for our customers?
To address this issue, the boat builder set out to find a sustainable and innovative solution – a protective technology that would go beyond conventional methods and not only extend the life of the boats, but also simplify maintenance. This led them to Chemona’s nano coating technology.
Solution:
Chemona offered an innovative solution with a combination of two of our leading products:
- Multi-Coat: For the hull and metal parts this advanced nano coating was used. Multi-Coat forms an invisible protective layer that prevents corrosion and wear from salt water and sunlight.
- Textile Coat: For the wooden decks and fabric cushions, Textiel Coat created a barrier against moisture and dirt, which means these materials stay beautiful for longer and are easy to clean.
Practical application:
The implementation of Chemona’s coatings was simple and efficient:
- Hulls:Multicoat was applied with a spray and cloth. The result? Immediately visible: a smooth, protective surface.
- Tarpaulins and cushions:Textiel Coat was simply sprayed onto the fabrics. Rainwater beaded off without saturating the material.
- Maintenance:A small maintenance service per season (applied in less than an hour) was sufficient to keep the boats in top condition.
Results:
The results exceeded the expectations of the boat builder and their customers:
- Long-lasting protection:Hulls and metal parts remained5 years rust free, even in the most challenging environments.
- Improved appearance:Customers proudly reported that their boats were in excellent condition even after years of intensive use."showroom look" retain.
- Lower maintenance costs:The easy cleaning and limited reuse of coatings significantly reduce total maintenance costs.
Quote from the customer:
"Chemona's coatings have not only improved our boats, but also our customer satisfaction. We now provide a product that can withstand the elements without compromising its appearance."
