Plastic garage doors are a widely used and low-maintenance solution for both private and commercial applications. Due to their weather resistance and lightweight construction, they are popular in residential areas, parking garages, business units and storage complexes. However, the surface of plastic doors is not immune to ageing. Over the years, visible degradation phenomena such as discolouration, dullness, chalking pigment layers and reduced dirt repellency develop under the influence of sunlight, acid rain, air pollution and temperature fluctuations.
In this project, the plastic garage doors were treated with a careful two-step process: intensive cleaning with Cleaner, followed by a single-layer application of 2C Perma Coat Gloss. This approach not only offers aesthetic restoration, but also structural protection, an extension of the lifespan and a permanently well-maintained appearance of the building.
Purpose of the treatment
The purpose of the treatment was:
- To restore the original colour and shine of the garage doors
- To apply a protective, dirt-repellent and UV-resistant layer
- To protect the plastic surface against weather influences and ageing
- To protect the garage doors against graffiti and other forms of pollution
- To simplify maintenance and reduce the cleaning frequency
- To enable sustainable property management without expensive replacement

Step 1: Cleaning with Cleaner – the basis for success
A durable coating starts with a clean, well-prepared surface. That is why the surface was first thoroughly cleaned with the specially developed product Cleaner:
- Removes old pigment residues, oxidation, deposits and weathering
- Cleans the pores of the plastic so that the coating adheres well
- Ensures that chalking or powdery layers disappear
- Partially restores the colour experience before coating
This step is essential to prevent adhesion problems and uneven discolouration.
Step 2: Applying 2C Perma Coat Gloss
After preparation, the surface was finished with 2C Perma Coat Gloss, a high-quality two-component coating specially developed for the treatment of weathered plastic and powder-coated surfaces.
Properties:
- Optically restores the original colour
- Forms a transparent, high-gloss protective layer
- Is UV and weather resistant, preventing discolouration
- Has a graffiti-resistant effect – spray paint and felt-tip pen are easy to remove
- Makes the surface water and dirt repellent
- Increases wear resistance, without losing the flexibility of the plastic
Additional benefits for property managers
This method is particularly interesting for property managers and homeowners' associations:
- No replacement required – existing doors are retained
- No inconvenience for residents or tenants – fast execution without noise or dust
- Less cleaning interventions – lower maintenance costs in the long term
- Improved appearance of the building – contributes to value and image
- Circular thinking – preservation of material, lower CO₂ emissions than replacement
Applications in practice
This treatment method is widely applicable to:
- Garage doors in residential areas and apartment complexes
- Overhead doors of commercial buildings or shopping centres
- Roller doors of storage boxes or parking garages
- Plastic fences, storage doors or frame panels
Wherever plastic is discoloured or weathered, but is still technically in good condition, this is a cost-saving and sustainable alternative to replacement.
