A well-maintained façade is essential for the appearance of a healthcare institution. In the case of the health centre in Velserbroek, the façade had lost its original fresh appearance. The frames and panels, exposed to sunlight, wind and precipitation for years, were visibly faded, discoloured and aged, which detracted from the professional image of the building.
Because replacing the frames would be a major and expensive intervention, a practical, cost-efficient and aesthetically responsible solution was sought. A treatment with 2C Colour Coat in the colour RAL 5022 (night blue) was chosen – a modern, deep colour that gives the building a fresh, contemporary appearance.
By first applying various coating systems to test pieces, the client was able to assess the performance in practice. The combination of visual result, adhesion and processing speed ultimately made the difference in choosing this system.
Purpose of the renovation
The restoration treatment was aimed at several objectives:
- Restoring the original appearance with a modern colour
- Protecting existing frame and panel surfaces from further degradation
- Realising a sustainable, weatherproof solution
- Limiting costs without compromising on quality
- Realising minimal inconvenience for staff and visitors
- Reducing the future maintenance frequency

Research, product selection and preparation
Prior to the work, the condition of the existing substrate was carefully assessed. Several coating types were then tested on a number of representative facade parts. The following were examined:
- Adhesion and flow
- Covering power and colour intensity
- Wear resistance and cleanability
- Visual appearance in different light incidences
- Ease of application (important for occupied and used buildings)
After this test round, the choice fell on 2C Colour Coat. This high-quality coating has been specially developed for the renovation of weathered metals and coated substrates, including aluminium and powder-coated steel.
Technical execution
The work consisted of the following steps:
- Deep cleaning of the substrate with a powerful but material-safe cleaning agent
- Sanding and roughening for better adhesion
- Degreasing to remove residue and dirt
- Application of 2C Colour Coat RAL 5022, in one full layer with a roller or spray technique
The advantage of this coating is that it hardens quickly, which means that the building could quickly be used normally again. By working in zones, the health centre remained continuously accessible.
Visual and functional result
After the treatment:
- The building has a neat and representative appearance
- The frames and panels are better protected against UV, precipitation and air pollution
- The colour is deep, consistent and colourfast, without gloss differences
- The facade is easier to clean and requires little maintenance
- The building is ready for the future without major structural interventions
The chosen night blue colour (RAL 5022) fits in well with a modern, professional care environment, and gives the building a calm and neat visual identity that inspires confidence in visitors and clients.
