In the hospitality sector, the condition of the bathroom often determines the first impression and the overall feeling of comfort of the guest. For modern hotel chains such as CitizenM, which are known for their minimalist luxury and high-quality finish, a high-quality appearance of every room is crucial. The bathroom in particular plays a key role in this: hygienic, modern and user-friendly, down to the last detail.
In several locations of the hotel group, wear and detachment of the existing powder coating on the shower trays were found during quality inspections. This resulted in functional and aesthetic problems:
- Water remained standing for longer, with the risk of slipperiness or mold formation
- Dirt and shampoo residue adhere more easily to damaged parts
- The visual appearance of the bathroom was negatively affected
- Detachment led to difficult-to-clean areas, which had an impact on housekeeping efficiency
Objective of the renovation
The renovation focused on a smart, sustainable and guest-oriented restoration of the shower trays, with the following objectives:
- Technical repair of damaged or loose coatings
- Prevention of further damage by water, cleaning agents and limescale deposits
- Extending the lifespan of existing bathroom components
- Improvement of hygiene, safety and ease of cleaning
- Maintaining or improving the aesthetic appearance of the bathrooms
By opting for a high-quality retreatment instead of replacement, we also contributed to cost control and sustainable building maintenance.
Approach: a controlled treatment in several steps
The shower trays were treated per room with a multi-step method, to guarantee maximum adhesion, quality and durability:
1. Mechanical preparation
All surfaces were carefully sanded and roughened, so that the new coating can adhere optimally. This prevents future detachment and provides a stable base.
2. Thorough cleaning and degreasing
Residues of old coatings, grease, dirt and limescale were completely removed with professional cleaning agents. A clean, dry base is essential for a smooth end result.
3. Application of 2C Colour Coat
The coating was applied in one or more layers with an even, wear-resistant coverage. 2C Colour Coat was specially developed for demanding applications such as sanitary areas, where moisture, heat, cleaning agents and intensive use come together.
