Gecoate aluminium kozijnen

Over the years, aluminium window frames and flashings are inevitably affected by external influences. Think of sunlight (UV radiation), precipitation, air pollution, temperature fluctuations, but also dirt accumulation and oxidation. As a result, the aluminium gradually loses its original shine and colour, and a dull, weathered appearance is created. This not only affects the aesthetic appearance of the building, but also the resistance of the material itself.

In order to structurally tackle this ageing, a sustainable renovation treatment was chosen in which the discoloured aluminium frames and flashings were:

  • Thoroughly cleaned and degreased

  • Finished with 2C Colour Coat in RAL 7016 (anthracite grey)

Purpose of the treatment

The main purpose of this treatment is to:

  • Restore the original appearance of the aluminium

  • Protect against future discolouration, dirt and corrosion

  • Create a modern, high-quality finish that matches contemporary architecture

  • Extend the lifespan of the aluminium parts

  • Limit future maintenance and cleaning frequency

Approach and materials used

The treatment started with an intensive cleaning and degreasing of the aluminium surfaces. This step is crucial to remove all contaminants, oxidation, deposits and loose particles and to guarantee good adhesion of the new coating.

The next step was to apply 2C Colour Coat, a high-quality two-component coating specially developed for renovating powder-coated and painted surfaces. The coating was applied in the colour RAL 7016 (anthracite grey) – a popular, stylish colour with a modern, industrial look.

Benefits of 2C Colour Coat on aluminium

  • Colour and gloss restoration without complete respraying or replacement

  • UV-resistant – prevents further discolouration due to sunlight

  • Water and dirt-repellent – less adhesion of dirt and easy to clean

  • Wear-resistant protection against scratches, moisture and corrosion

  • Micron-thin top layer – retains the shape and detailing of the original profile

  • Fast processing – minimal inconvenience, no dismantling required

  • Sustainable alternative – less harmful to the environment than complete replacement

Aesthetic added value

The choice of RAL 7016 contributes greatly to the modern appearance of the building. This colour is often used in contemporary architecture because of its sleek, chic and neutral appearance that combines well with both light and dark facade materials. In addition, it gives a neat and uniform appearance to the whole – a clear improvement compared to dull, discoloured aluminium parts.

Result and long-term effect

After the treatment, the frames and flashings look as good as new. They have regained their colour intensity, look even and cared for, and are now provided with a protective layer that is resistant to the elements. Thanks to the dirt and water-repellent properties, they also stay clean for longer, which leads to less maintenance and lower costs in the long term.

This approach is an excellent example of sustainable property maintenance, in which existing materials are retained, protected and aesthetically improved, instead of replaced, with positive effects on both costs, environmental impact and appearance.
