Dakbeplating Watertoren Hoogeveen

The WMD water tower in Hoogeveen is a recognizable building with a striking appearance. As a utilitarian and architectural object, it is essential that the tower looks well-maintained and is resistant to weather influences. In this project, the powder-coated roof cladding in particular was visibly affected: the colour had faded, the surface was dull, and the protective properties of the original coating had diminished.

In order to restore the roof to its former glory and prevent further weathering, a sustainable, non-invasive repair method was chosen with the product 2C Perma Coat Mat. This not only restored the colour experience of the roof panels, but also applied a protective semi-gloss layer that significantly extends the lifespan of the surface.

Purpose of the treatment

The treatment had several objectives:

  • Restoring the original colour and appearance of the powder-coated roof panels

  • Increasing the weather resistance, especially against UV radiation and rain

  • Applying a durable, semi-gloss protective layer without respraying

  • Making the surface dirt and water-repellent for easier maintenance

  • Preserving the original architectural details of the building

Approach

The roof panels were first thoroughly cleaned and degreased. This removed dirt, oxidation residues and chalking paint parts to create a stable base. After drying, the 2C Perma Coat Mat was applied:

  • This is a two-component coating that adheres to existing powder coating

  • The coating optically restores the colour without painting over it

  • The semi-gloss finish provides a subtly reflective, modern look

  • The protective layer is resistant to UV, moisture, dirt and light mechanical stress

Advantages of 2C Perma Coat Mat on roof cladding

  • Colour enhancement without spraying or replacement

  • Fast processing on site, without dismantling

  • Extended lifespan of existing powder coating

  • Limited maintenance required due to dirt and water-repellent effect

  • Preservation of original appearance and detailing of the cladding

  • Environmentally friendly approach through reuse instead of replacement

Preservation of culturally and visually valuable real estate

The WMD water tower has an image-defining function within Hoogeveen. The careful restoration and protection of building components such as the roof not only contributes to the technical condition of the building, but also to the appreciation of the building in the streetscape.

By using transparent protective technology, the character of the building is preserved, while the lifespan of vulnerable surfaces is significantly extended.
