Gecoate aluminium kozijnen ING Almere

The ING Bank branch at Koopmansstraat 12 in Almere is a representative and functional building that is used daily by customers and employees. As a financial service provider, a neat and professional appearance of the building is of great importance. The facade of the building, with its sleek aluminum frames and facade panels, plays a decisive role in this.

After years of exposure to sun, precipitation, temperature changes and air pollution, the aluminum facade parts were visibly weathered. The original color had become dull, the shine had disappeared and the surface had largely lost its protective qualities. This optical and functional aging detracted from the appearance of the building and entailed risks for further material degradation.

In order to effectively tackle this aging, a specialist renovation and conservation treatment was chosen with 2C Perma Coat Mat – a transparent, matt coating that was specially developed for the restoration and protection of powder-coated surfaces.

Treatment objective

The applied treatment focused on several important objectives:

  • Restoring the colour and appearance of window frames and facade panels

  • Sustainable protection against new weathering and discolouration

  • Extending the lifespan of the existing powder coating

  • Improving ease of maintenance and reducing the cleaning frequency

  • Maintaining the architectural uniformity of the building

By intervening in time, further damage could be prevented and a complete recoating or replacement became unnecessary.

Technique: how 2C Perma Coat Mat works

2C Perma Coat Mat is an innovative two-component coating that adheres to existing (powder) coating layers. The coating:

  • Permeates the existing layer superficially to achieve colour deepening and adhesion

  • Forms a closed, breathable protective layer that repels dirt, moisture and UV radiation

  • Preserves the structure of the underlying material

  • Provides an even, matt, semi-gloss finish with a modern look

In contrast to spraying, this coating is transparent and preservative instead of overpainting. This preserves the original colour and visually refreshes it.

Method

1. Cleaning and pretreatment
The surfaces were cleaned with a specially developed cleaner that removes dirt, grease, atmospheric deposits and chalking residues. Care was taken to prevent damage or corrosion of the aluminium.

2. Applying the coating
After drying, 2C Perma Coat Mat was applied with a microfibre application or roller, depending on the surface. The coating hardens to a water and dirt-repellent film.

The treatment was carried out without dismantling or major interventions, which contributed to minimal inconvenience for employees and visitors to the building.

Sustainable maintenance and environmental benefits

The treatment not only provides aesthetic and technical benefits, but also contributes to sustainable building management:

  • Preservation instead of replacement – less material consumption

  • Less cleaning agents required thanks to dirt-repellent effect

  • Less frequent maintenance – reduction of management burden

  • No emission of spray mist or solvents, as with recoating

By repairing existing materials instead of replacing them, this approach is in line with circular maintenance principles and the sustainability goals of modern property managers.

Relevance for commercial buildings

For bank buildings such as that of ING, a professional façade appearance is essential. Customers, visitors and employees form their first impression based on the exterior. A fresh, smooth and well-maintained façade exudes trust, care and quality, values that match the brand identity of a financial institution.

By using 2C Perma Coat Mat, that appearance has been restored and secured for years to come.
