Gecoate kozijnen DKPS Alphen

The DKPS office building in Alphen aan den Rijn recently underwent a visual upgrade, aimed at improving the appearance and increasing the sustainability of the facade. The original blue window frames, which had been exposed to sun, wind, precipitation and air pollution for years, were severely weathered and discoloured. They no longer matched the desired appearance of the building and the professional identity of the company.

The client wanted to give the building a sleeker, timeless and more business-like look. To achieve this, the choice was made to treat the existing window frames with 2C Colour Coat in the colour RAL 7021 (black-grey). This colour is currently very popular in both new construction and renovation projects because of its elegant, sober and powerful appearance. This application not only gave the window frames a visual metamorphosis, but also a new protective top layer that contributes to making the building future-proof.

Purpose of the treatment

The renovation had several specific goals:

  • Visually restore the dull and discoloured window frames

  • Give the building a modern, representative appearance

  • Apply durable protection against UV radiation, moisture and wear

  • Simplify maintenance with a dirt-repellent coating

  • Extend the lifespan of existing materials without replacement

  • Create an appearance that fits the DNA of the organisation

Technical approach and product selection

1. Preparation and cleaning
Prior to treatment, the frames were thoroughly cleaned and degreased to prevent adhesion problems. Any micro-contamination and chalking layers of paint were removed.

2. Application of 2C Colour Coat RAL 7021
The coating was applied in one layer to the existing surface. 2C Colour Coat is a professional two-component coating with high wear resistance, specially designed for refreshing powder-coated or anodised aluminium surfaces.

Coating characteristics:

  • Evens out colour differences and weathering

  • Very good adhesion to existing surfaces

  • Dirt and water-repellent, so less maintenance

  • UV-stable – prevents new discolouration

  • Matte semi-gloss finish, contemporary and stylish

Why RAL 7021?

RAL 7021 (black-grey) is a dark grey colour that offers a balance between strength and neutrality. It goes well with both light and dark facade bricks, metal and glass elements. This colour:

  • Provides a chic, businesslike appearance

  • Makes window and door elements look optically slimmer

  • Strengthens contrast with other facade materials

  • Exudes tranquility, professionalism and modernity

  • Is easier to maintain than lighter colours (less visible dirt)

The choice for RAL 7021 was therefore not only aesthetic, but also strategic.

Functional and aesthetic added value

The renovation of the frames has yielded several advantages for the user and the owner of the building:

  • Increased appreciation of the building by tenants and visitors

  • Professional appearance that suits an office environment

  • Extension of the economic life of the facade

  • Cost savings compared to complete replacement

  • Lower environmental impact by retaining existing material

In addition, the new appearance contributes to the brand identity of DKPS: modern, careful and future-oriented.
