A garage floor is more than just a functional surface. Whether it is a private garage, a parking garage or a technical room: the floor contributes to the appearance, safety and daily ease of use of the space. Untreated concrete often looks messy, is sensitive to dust formation and absorbs moisture, dirt and oil. This makes cleaning difficult, increases wear and reduces the lifespan of the floor.

In the urban dynamics of Amsterdam, buildings are subject to all kinds of external influences on a daily basis: weather conditions, air pollution, vandalism, and intensive use. Especially in student housing complexes, where social interaction, liveliness and movement are central, it is important that the building is well maintained and remains visually attractive.

Plastic garage doors are a widely used and low-maintenance solution for both private and commercial applications. Due to their weather resistance and lightweight construction, they are popular in residential areas, parking garages, business units and storage complexes. However, the surface of plastic doors is not immune to ageing. Over the years, visible degradation phenomena such as discolouration, dullness, chalking pigment layers and reduced dirt repellency develop under the influence of sunlight, acid rain, air pollution and temperature fluctuations.

In offshore operations where helicopter traffic is essential for the accessibility of drilling platforms, the condition of the helideck is of crucial importance. The deck surfaces are exposed to exceptionally harsh conditions, such as wind, salt spray, temperature fluctuations, mechanical stress and, not to forget, pollution by guano (bird droppings). This accumulation of organic material not only poses a risk to the structure of the surface, but also to the safety of pilots and personnel during take-offs and landings.

In warehouses, floors are exposed to intensive use on a daily basis. Think of moving pallets, forklift traffic, transport carts and regular cleaning. A bare concrete floor, although functional, is in many cases vulnerable to wear and tear, dust formation and difficult to maintain. In addition, the grey, unfinished appearance often does not contribute to a neat, professional working environment.

The DKPS office building in Alphen aan den Rijn recently underwent a visual upgrade, aimed at improving the appearance and increasing the sustainability of the facade. The original blue window frames, which had been exposed to sun, wind, precipitation and air pollution for years, were severely weathered and discoloured. They no longer matched the desired appearance of the building and the professional identity of the company.

The exterior of a building plays an important role in the appearance and state of maintenance of the whole. For educational institutions such as the Kentalis Prof. Huizingschool, where many students, employees and visitors pass by every day, a well-maintained and representative facade is essential. Over the years, however, the gravel plates and window sills of the building had been visibly affected by moss growth, algae, pollution and weather influences.

The ING Bank branch at Koopmansstraat 12 in Almere is a representative and functional building that is used daily by customers and employees. As a financial service provider, a neat and professional appearance of the building is of great importance. The facade of the building, with its sleek aluminum frames and facade panels, plays a decisive role in this.

The WMD water tower in Hoogeveen is a recognizable building with a striking appearance. As a utilitarian and architectural object, it is essential that the tower looks well-maintained and is resistant to weather influences. In this project, the powder-coated roof cladding in particular was visibly affected: the colour had faded, the surface was dull, and the protective properties of the original coating had diminished.

In the modern Nij Smellinghe hospital in Drachten, patient safety, comfort and hygiene are central. An essential part of this is the maintenance and condition of the sanitary facilities that are directly connected to the patient rooms. These so-called connected bathrooms are used intensively every day and are subject to moisture, temperature fluctuations and limescale formation – factors that not only complicate the cleaning process, but also pose a risk to the hygiene standard and the preservation of the building.

Overhead doors are a prominent and functional part of the building in many business environments. They are used intensively in logistics halls, warehouses, garages and distribution centres, and are often the first visual point of contact for visitors, suppliers and staff. However, due to prolonged exposure to sunlight, rain, wind, dirt and air pollution, the original coating layer on these doors becomes visibly weathered over time. The gloss disappears, the colour becomes duller and the surface looks dull or chalky, a sign of ageing of the top layer due to UV degradation and micro-pollution.
